For a photo-blogger, I sure do deviate from my stated goal of posting new photos.  Howbeit, my friend the ever-musical Melody shared a wonderful piece with me and I wanted to share it with you all.  I've listened to several other pieces by the composer and so far would recommend him.

And - just so this isn't completely off-topic - the music is accompanied by some beautiful floral photographs.  Perhaps this will be motivation enough to finally take my camera out into the garden!

On Mother's Day we took a lovely walk with my grandmother along a channel.  My camera was out constantly - good thing, since I didn't have much time to photograph this family of geese.

We interrupt this broadcast for a brief announcement:
TA-DA!
It's a new design!  (I told you I was working on it!)  : )  What do you think, y'all?  I'm happy to say it's 100% homemade and I sure had fun doing it.  My CSS skills have improved considerably through the experience...

Don't forget to grab the new button!

If the button code gives you any trouble, please don't hesitate to contact me.

We will now return to our regularly scheduled programming! ; )

Birches are some of my favorite trees, and this is one of my favorite birches.  It resides in my neighborhood and graces suburbia with its elegant white limbs.

P.S.  I know, I know, I need to update the look of this blog.  Workin' on it! : )

Four photos about cars, driving, and stoplights.  Two of them were even taken behind the wheel (at a full stop, I assure you!).

Is it just me, or is something terribly wrong here?

Traffic at about 5:30pm in Manhattan, where I visited in 2010 and where, I'm told, one can get a $300 ticket for honking at some intersections.

My dashboard, and the eerie glow of streetlights on the pavement.
Have you ever taken pictures in the car? (NOT while driving!)

Back in November, we made a trip to a garden center to look at their winter offerings.  Besides the usual wreaths and evergreens, they had a good variety of houseplants.  I went a bit crazy taking flower pictures—it was November, after all!  I especially liked the way the kalanchoe (kal-an-koe-ee) pictures turned out.

What about you?  Have you ever shot flower pictures at the "wrong" time of year?  : )

Kudos and thanks to Golden Eagle for pointing out Flame Painter, the program I made this with.  Great fun!

P.S.  Just a brief reminder that Japan can still use a lot of prayer, and I still have hopes that the button below may go somewhere.  If you don't want to put the button in your sidebar, please at least consider using it briefly in a post.  Japan is currently finding that some food is contaminated with radiation, and while they've made steps toward restoring the cooling system at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant, they're far from out of the woods.  Much prayer definitely still needed.

Picture
As I'm sure most of you have heard, Japan is facing a possible nuclear crisis after having suffered a 9.0 earthquake and a tsunami.  I have been following the news closely, and I am grieved by the horror of the situation.  I have a friend in Yokohama, and this has made it all seem very real.

God is capable of stopping the spread of radiation.  God is bigger than this disaster.  Because I believe this, I am issuing a call to prayer - for the Japanese people, for the workers in the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant, for the wildlife that perhaps is now being affected as radioactive steam blows out to sea, for those in Russia who are terrified that radiation will spread to them.  Pray that God would stop the spread of radioactive particles.  Pray that the workers at the plant would be able to get the cooling situation in the reactors under control.  Pray for God's mercy.  Most of all, pray that His will would be done - since we know that His will is always best, even when we don't understand it.

I made a very simple button to share this call to prayer.  If you agree with me, please grab it for your sidebar or for a post and pass it on so more people will pray.  If we do this, there will be no counting the number of people praying for this situation.

If you haven't seen much news on the situation in Japan, I recommend the New York Times coverage, which has been moderate and helpful.

Thanks, everybody.

I found this shot in my archives (you guessed it, still photo-tagging).  It was taken in a beautifully-restored historic building.  I've always wanted to make a drawing with a hallway like this that never ends... but perhaps this one, which ends in a tall window, is close enough. : )

P.S.  Sorry, y'all, for not getting more new photos up... I'm still tagging (and tagging and tagging) my archives, from which I pulled these views of an undeniably quotidian item.  I had no idea I have so many photos!  I'm hoping things will be returning to normal soon.
